If You Don't Know To Know It
Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)
If you don't know to know,
What you should know to know it.
Stop defending your ignorance.
As if the doing has been given,
Permission of others and approval to do...
To represent your lack of common sense..
As being theirs too.
With a condoning your delusions,
Publicly believed to be...
An endorsement to support,
The death of your stupidity.
'I resent your assessment!'
'And sometimes I hate,
Feeling alone and outspoken.
With others observing you,
Are reluctant to express...
Less complimentary words to flatter.
And for whatever reason...
I am more direct,
In sharing my thoughts.'
'Well...
I thank you for your explanation.
And relieved to know,
You had that much respect...
For my pretensions kept and credibility.
I attempt to keep deceptively intact.
If you know where I'm coming from?'
'OH.
And how well do I know it.
Anyhow...
No problem at all.
At least I didn't call you an idiot.
Like the others you believe to be loyal?
I could never backstab you like that.
I too have my integrity to keep.
I may 'lip-whip' you into embarrassment.
But that stuff the others do?
That behind the back crap,
Is not only appalling but sooo distasteful!
And by the way...
If you don't know what you should.
Just lie and say you don't.
Because the moment you say,
You know anything at all.
People will keep you trying to proving it,
To their deceased ancestors.
And believe me...
That ain't a joke!
