David, A Man After God's Own Heart
The Bible says:"the first shall be the last."
David was the last child in the family
of Jesse, his father.
But God chose him to be king,
and rejected the first son, Eliab. God looks at the heart, and not
at physical appearance.
David came to limelight when he slew Goliath,
the renowned enemy of Israel;
the women of Israel eulogized him
above Saul, who grew jealous
and wanted him dead.
God cannot lie; he is not a man;
his words must surely come to pass. Surely David eluded Saul several times.
David, a man after God's own heart had
two good opportunities to slay his enemy, but refrained from such.
"God forbid that I shall touch the Lord's anointed."
Then one fine day, Saul went to battle, and perished with all his sons; there was none to succeed him.
David wept bitterly when he learnt that Saul and his sons had perished in battle.
David became king, and governed in the fear of God.
And when his time came, he died
and his son, Solomon, took over. After Solomon died, his son Rehoboam became king. After Rehoboam, Abijah, his became king. And so on...
About this poem
David was an outstanding character in the holy book. He feared God that he was not willing to slay his enemy, Saul. Because David served God wholeheartedly, the throne never left his family for many generations to come. Our Lord Jesus Christ came from the tribe of David.
