Poem

"No" In Three Parts

Part 1: End of Trends

Don’t tell me my passion, sell me a poison,
seek my devotion, or target my vice;
don’t force your opinions, go through the motions,
entertain notions, or offer advice.

You’re pushing a remedy, advancing a malady,
peddling ecstasy, distorting reality;
you dabble in truth, you’re moving a fallacy,
meddling with purity, aborting morality.

You’re a feast for the senses,
you’re solid banter,
you’re liquid sin;
you’re false pretenses,
though many will enter,
few will win.

Part 2: Do- Gooders Don't

Don’t give me false praises, hand me a line,
feed me catch phrases, or finesse my mind;
don’t tug at my heartstrings, press me for time,
wine me or dine me, or insist you’re mine.

You’re a sob story
in business attire,
hairspray and cologne;
your details are gory,
your straits are dire,
but leave me alone.

Part 3: Fiction of Addiction

Don’t send me a bill, attack my emotions,
package promotions, or look at me twice;
I won’t pop your pills, absorb your lotions,
ingest your potions, or work your device.

You’re even pressure
in fourth-grade prose
and red meat lingo;
you’re an extra measure,
but the door is closed
and the answer is no.
