Poem

A Cat on My Back

Mom sent me upstairs to clean up my room,
she gave me a trash bag, a dustpan and a broom,
first I decided to check under the bed,
but had to lay on it to not to bump my head.

Now what happened next is truly not my fault,
the cat saw me laying there and tried out his vault,
he landed right in the middle of my back and purred,
so what could I do it was such a sweet sound I heard?

When mom came up to see what I had done,
she wasn’t real happy with her wonderful son
but mom it isn’t initiative I lack
how could I move with a cat on my back?

The dust pan lay empty, the broom stayed unused,
as Mr. Whiskers and I snoozed
the toys still scattered from here to there,
among piles of my socks and underwear.

She didn’t understand I’d really been good
to let the cat sleep as long as it would,
her arms were crossed her lips were tight,
she sighed real heavy with all of her might.

The cat was dismissed with a word and a look
but mom said I still wasn’t off the hook,
the room is now clean with a flick and a flack,
but how could I move with a cat on my back?
