tick tock

i suddenly got scared
time is a beggars banquet, not to be shared
my volatile fall from grace
shows in every line on my face

emotional shrapnel, wounded me deep
i just wanted to be asleep
being hoisted by my own petard
left me on my guard

feeling like an off key canary
made me a little wary
but now i am beginning to trust
and no! it's not just lust

this woman really has something to say
pity she lives so far away
a timorous emotional bridgehead halted the decay
pursuading me to stay

all roads may lead to rome
but this road is putting a nifty gleam on my soul
maybe we can all make it home
and at last, finally be whole.
