What I learned

What I learned is friendship is the key
To keep your heart open - so I could see.
See that you were there all along,
Sent from above to help me stay strong.

I needed a teacher and along you came,
Showing me slowly we are one and the same.
Showing me that optimism can set me free,
Showing me that friendship can open up me

The things you say so casually,
Like the best things in life you told me are free
Suddenly you're here to teach me what life is about.
Granting a fresh perspective - one with less doubt.

Someone to take charge when I simply cannot,
Being strong in the lessons I need to be taught.
See past the rage, the hatred, the pain,
All those things that make me feel insane
The things I point solidly at me,
Then there you are to help me see.

Release the old vision and gain new sight,
I get to leave behind darkness and run to the light!
What I learned is friendship is rare,
There you are reminding me how to care.

Thank you my friend for being who you are
Now I know friendship is never that far!
You saved my life if only by attitude alone
But inside I know its cause of you - my heart has grown!
