I had a shoebox with stuff from my past
memories to show me what didnt last
I got a new box along with my marriage
filled with things from my husband
and first born child
the marriage didnt last a long while
Then I started a new box with things
that I hoped would be my future with a man
He said he could wait but then he thought again
Its time I learned a lesson
a box is meant for shoes
not for memories and hopes
and senseless I love yous
So the next time I see a box
empty and smiling with glee
I will fill that box up
with stuff from ME

nice one jenna - i love stanza 4 where you come to arrive at your resolution. "a box is meant for shoe" lol... the truth is always looking us straight in the face!!!

I found a shoebox way back in the closet, no shoes but stuffed with little notes and hand made cards I had given her over the 48 years of our lives together, I’ll keep it, as she kept me. I think I’ll dig it out and again now that you brought it up.

lol!! love it!! one small typo (was it you who said I catch all the typos ?)..... empyt and smiling with glee. you know I only take the time to point out those little things when I feel a poem is that good and worth the trouble.

You posted so many comments on my poems and I feel horrible for not commenting yours, I love this one, it's how I feel about all my exs too. What I hate most, are the pieces of the past you forgot to put in the box that resurface at the worst times. Boxes are good and bad, good because they are easy to do away with all of it at once, bad because you get wrapped up in the past while looking through them before throwing them away.

yepp...this is the first box i didnt lock away though.... he told a friend he will have me when im in the states next year. why fight it when you want it
