Heartwings Says, "Some gifts last a lifetime."
A blog I occasionally receive recently told me something interesting. It stated that while other aspects come from the mother, much of a child’s character and self-esteem comes from the father. I believe that is true for me. As I get older I perceive that while my drive and ambition came from my mother, what I did with it and how is certainly derived from the man my father was.
He was a devout churchgoer, and he also carried his spirituality into his daily life. He volunteered his time and energy to good causes. For most of my life I have done and continue to do the same. I do not remember my mother doing this. He was also a good businessman. At one time in my life I had my own business designing and making clothes that sold in a local boutique. I was good at sales; he was an excellent salesman. My mother was an artist and somewhat shy.
He loved flowers as do I. Even when he no longer had a garden to pick from he made sure there were at least silk flowers around the home. He was a cheerful, friendly person who enjoyed entertaining, as I enjoy feeding guests in our home. My mother disliked parties and entertaining nor did she enjoy cooking. As I have grown into myself I realize how much I have followed in his footsteps.
My father did not have much time with his own dad, yet I believe from what I have learned of my grandfather that he passed on many of his traits to his son. I feel fortunate that I had my father for as many years as I did. When I was young we built sand castles together. In his later years his illness sapped his strength and his will, yet he still had an appreciation for life and for living that I too hope to have for the rest of my days.
May you have happy memories of your father to brighten your heart.
Blessings and Best Regards, Tasha Halpert

Thanks for this look into you’re life, makes me think of my life growing up with my parents in the thirties, a time of ups and downs, mostly downs.

An inspiring blog, Tasha. The notion of being inspired by friends such as parents is an inspiring one. The drive is carried throughout the family. When you realize the upbringing of your mother artist and father's salesman, you wish to follow in their footsteps. I am sorry for his illness, though.
