Event Name: Worlds oldest continuious open mic in history
Start Time: 8:00pm
DescriptionIn February of 1989, Hot Springs experienced a new birth of culture. Bud Kenny, who moved to Hot Springs in 1977, founded the Wednesday night Poetry Reading, originally held at Grotto's Restaurant. Those Wednesday night readings have continued non stop for almost 19 years. WAHOOO!. The First Wednesday in February 2008 will mark 19 years beginning the count down to a 20th year anniversary celebration of the worlds oldest continuous open mic poetry reading in history. Our goal is to have a feature poet every Wednesday night right up to the actual 20th year anniversary. Please book a feature slot and continue to be part of the tradition.

Bud left Hot Springs and The Poet's Loft accompanied by his wife Patricia and their mule Della on a journey around the world on foot in 2001.

Although Kenny was the founder and master of ceremonies during the first 3 years, the M.C. duties are shared on a rotation basis now. Pam Rawls and co-loft keeper Mary Gray are the present coordinators of the event which is held in the Poet's Loft, in downtown Hot Springs.

The Poet's loft has always been self supporting through its own contributions and those of hard working volunteers. It is NOT a for profit organization. All donations, by generous supporters of the arts, are used for the benefit of all artists, in a variety of ways, as funds are available.

Printed articles about this local event have appeared in local newsprint, and in publications throughout the U.S. including People Magazine.

Thank each and every one of you for your continued support and attendance over all these years. We at the Poets Loft look forward to seeing you every Wednesday night at 8pm.

For those of you wishing to support The Poet's Loft in its endeavors to support the Arts and Artist of spoken word, please send you tax deductible donations to
