Poetry is a serious matter
full of serious issues and deep reflection
around every metaphoric corner....
WHO SAID?!?!
Don't tell Lewis Carroll or E.A. Robinson or Maya Angelou.
Please don't break the news to Shel Silverstein or the late great Dr.Seuss!
Take your hubble out of your waggle and calm the funk down!
If the words pour from your lips, from your pen to paper
it's poetry.

You may wish to shoot me for saying this, but I believe the facile appearance of Lewis Carroll and Angelou's work cannot disguise the fact that their work is still serious and deeply reflective in nature. Although I do not disagree altogether with the message of this poem, I do not believe the examples given back up the point. Now, if you wanted to take the approach that you can also be 'deep' and playful at the same time, I'd be closer to agreeing.

Your disagreement doesn't bother me in the slightest. Will not change my mind about it either.

Interesting work, iwrite. I don't know if Maya Angelou would be the best choice in mentioning having a laugh at whimsical poetry as most of the work I've read from her (although I'm not really a fan of her work) seems to be quite serious. Then again, I haven't read a great deal of her work so there could be a completely different side to her I don't know.
I would have probably mentioned Bukowski or Simic here as examples of the enjoyment of a whimsical write (or our very own maestro badmalthus here at GP). I agree with you here though, no one wants to sit around reading stuffy and pretentious stuff all day, I enjoy writing something for a good laugh as well!
