Mr. John,
Pardon my intrusions. Unfortunately I am having difficulty navigating this site, I cannot relocate poems after I've posted to them. I most certainly am not the most diligent of note takers. Is there something here that tracks my history? Unfortunately, yahoo has eaten my google tool bar. I must go and establish an account with paypal. I'm more interested in becoming a paid member here. In the meantime I wouldn't be interested in locating my history through a site.
Many thanks, ~ cable

Hi Cable.
To see a history of your comments, click on the little button at the bottom of your posts, where it says "profile".
Once on your profile page, you will see a section labeled "Last 10 Forum Topics:" click where is says "Find all" and you will see all the comments you've made on the site.

Clicking on My Account does the same thing -- it is at the top of the screen.

John and RZS: There seems to be a problem with people thinking that the Post a Poem workshop is the Rewrite workshop. Several people have been claiming this, yet when I post a poem there, it is usually for the purpose of gaining advice on a specific portion of the poem. It is not to re-write the entire poem. There are, are you well know, several sites for this. A couple of people have been very upset that their entire poem was torn apart and rewritten for no apparent reason. Gail

Not sure if anyone will really read this or where might be a better place to post this, but I needed to voice an opinion. Is it just me or does it seem like there are a large majority of people on this site who never utilize the workshop forums and just automatically post their poems as finished work?
When I first came on this site getting feedback on my poems was a new experience for me. In the beginning it was difficult because my poems are very emotional which made me sensative to critique. However I learned. over time, how valuable it was to get other people's feedback. That doesn't mean I always take their suggestions, but I can't tell you how many times people's comment and suggestions have helped me to take a poem or idea that I thought was good and turn it into something wonderful.
I wish more people would see how valuable it is to workshop their poems before posting them to their finished section. If we become a community that only wants to show off our finished work and get positive feedback on it I think we will be missing out on so many opportunities to grow as writers.
Thanks GotPoetry.com for providing me a place to grow and be supported as a writer.

This is true. I try to encourage people to post in the workshops. But most members don't use them. I think perhaps they are scared. However, as you say, the workshops are very useful. I would like to see more efforts made by other staff to get them used.

I agree as to how helpful they are. I have found them to be very much so and also noticed that the ones I work on in the forums often get more reads and higher marks than the ones I do not. I only wish thre were more hours in the day to devote to poetry! BLessings and Gratitude for GotPoetry, Tasha

And another point is that (and yes I know there are many exceptions to this) on the whole it is the better and more serious poets who post in the Forums. Therefore posting in the Forums is a good way of getting one's work recognized and becoming known, which leads to more people reading one's poems in the Finished section.

Good point, I hadn't thought of that. Personally I do it because I just love working on the improvement of my poetry.I also enjoy helping others do the same. To me this is really the heart of GP. Warm Wishes, Tasha

Thanks Ozymandias and Pujakins for responding to my post. It is something that I get frustrated with and if there is anything either one of you think we could do to bring more attention to the importance of workshopping I would happily participate and promote.

i joined almost two years ago, starting posting in the forums after the first few months and it made a world of difference for me. now i don't even bother posting in the finished section unless i've posted in the forum first. i feel like my writing quality has grown exponentially since i decided to put my work in the forums first, they're a much better source of honest critique than you will find in the finished section, imo. i like criticism, of any kind, it's the only way i know how to grow. i'd rather someone ripped my poem apart and gave me an honest critique than a pat on the back. i may not always take someone's suggestion word for word or i may disregard it altogether, but the point is that i am getting several sets of eyes looking critically at something i've written; that is worth more to me than anything.

People will come to the level of confidence it takes to post in the forums through encouragement. When brave enough, a poet can take the precious words to the fierce eye of potential critics--note to reader, the poet is fearful, thus the hesitancy in the first place. I try to encourage what seems to me to be good work and do what I can to suggest the forums in interaction with other poets here. Perhaps those of us who encourage others will make an impact on the community. Just a thought...Warm Wishes to all, Tasha
