[this is inspired by / related to a friend's poem]

I listen to you
while driving at night
inky black hole mouth
spilling out
nouns & verbs
and that same
tired question

hanging like a frozen white balloon
above our heads,
larger than the moon.

I lie, heavy with my knowing -

that the road will bend ahead
past the fir trees
for the same reason
I've come to hate you.

Be quiet. Let me
covet curves and telephone poles,
houses I can't afford,
the memory of other hands
on my knee
different nouns
inside me.

I lie, light with my knowing -

there's another car
wrapped around a tree
five minutes into the future

I covet the rush
that'll overcome us
the sound

of unanswered questions

larks leaving my body

.wow.

im coming back after the weekend to truly wallow in & enjoy this.
all i can say as life tugs my sleeve to be in different places of be.ing.
for now. its like a ripened cabernet chortling over my mind.
