I want to pen a villanelle,
A classic for posterity;
I want to do this one thing well.
As loudly as a morning bell,
Extol the truth with clarity;
I want to pen a villanelle.
In written verse a joyful yell,
Dispensing with austerity;
I want to do this one thing well.
Against constraints I will rebel,
Eschewing all vulgarity;
I want to pen a villanelle.
The secrets that I want to tell,
Reveal eternal verity!
I want to do this one thing well.
But sadly friends I bid farewell,
Such poems are a rarity;
I tried to pen a villanelle,
I tried to do this one thing well!

couldn't say it better - so I will never wright one---

highlighted the whole

fav stanza, but I should / could have highlighted the whole thing,,,,,

Love the pace and structure of this piece. I have always been a fan of classic verse, especially light, whimsical verse. This is well measured and to the point, also like that the poem self references. Love the language used also, great piece.
