Goodbye, New Orleans.
The days I spent in your grip were stoned and strange,
but now I feel like I know your Acadian soul
I’ll come by and visit again sometime in Heaven
It was good to walk your tired sidewalks and to see
glorious hangover sunrises in the 6 AM shadows
of your tourist margaritas and broke, angry slums.
Looking in the rear view mirror of my ride out I thought,
“One day God is gonna flush you into the sea.
Goodbye Backwards Atlantis.
May your jazz soul simmer beneath the ocean cold.

Quite a requiem here, Ben - you make the place sound like Sin City ripe for the castigation! What do you mean by "Backwards Atlantis"? That it's a culturally backward city?

Maybe by backwards Atlantis I just mean its a different kind of utopia- not culturally backwards, but utopian in its morality, gone for years. A relieving spot in the uptight deep south. I don't know if I mean "New Orleans deserved it" I guess I just mean that it could be seen that way. Thanks for the interest.
