Back in the 80’s. recombinant protein
production didn’t involve a lot of options.
There were E.coli., S.cerevisiae, and CHO
cells, and talk of other speculative concepts.
Those were heady days, wacky ideas tossed
about here and there, some using the lymph
fluids of cows, a collection nightmare at least.
Fast forward to the twenty first century.
Now products on the market, being tested
in humans, use bacteria other than E.coli ;
broths from filamentous fungi, insects,
mammalian cells, transgenic plants and animals,
where Hello Dolly isn’t a musical,
but a biochem factory with moist brown eyes.
from the June 2004 BioProcess International
Supplement Series on Protein Expression
in the 21st Century

This is a little over my head, but I like it.
One minor thing..the last couplet is a sentence fragment. Maybe that doesn't matter..but what about:
Hello Dolly is no longer a musical,
but a biochem factory with moist brown eyes.
Otherwise, very original.
