Sanctuary
That which is loving
helps me to face
that which is not
at first glance:
those mysterious
messages of God's unfolding
that seem some form
of wrathful scolding.
Here in my heart
is sanctuary given
to every welcome
or unwelcome guest.
For I know that angels
are everywhere
and may come in disguise.
To entertain them
even unaware,
I must be
and remain wise
to the ways God gives me
opportunity.

I like the message, and I think the last four stanzas (which are great) could stand alone.

You are correct, they could. However, I rather fancy the first two as part of the poem. So many folk feel better about things if they can see the purpose to them, and recognize that what at first glance seems a disaster can actually be an important step forward. Or so it seems to me. Thank you for your input. It is always valuable to me, and even when we disagree you help me clarify my good reasons for doing so. 'Tis is always a good thing in my book. Hugs and Blessings,Tasha

Sorry, only just noticed this very good poem. I have a suggestion which you may or may not like - I know the lines are short, but if it were me I would make them even shorter, often just one or two words. This would slow it down even more, and give a contemplative effect.

As aolways, your words give me to think! I like it the way it is because of the cadence of the lines, however that may or may not communicate itself effectively. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it very much. Warm Wishes, Tasha

An interesting piece; I'm not sure if the title matches the message of this poem; what is your definition of "sanctuary"?

Hello and thanks! "Sanctuary" here is meant as space to be, a place of acceptance. Is that more clear? Thanks for asking. Blessings and Best Regards, Tasha
