Seattle Slam gets a NEW HOME!!!

Due to a
change in owners and a remodel, The Seattle
Poetry Slam has said a fond farewell to The Mirabeau
Room.

While goodbyes are sad, we are VERY pleased to
announce:
Beginning Tues, Sept.12th, our
NEW Home Venue is - TOST (http://rs6.net/tn.jsp?t=wag7kzbab.0.mjb57xbab.aebxm4aab.754&ts=S0212&p=http%3A%2F%2Ftostlounge.com%2F) - in
Fremont (513 N. 36th St., Space E). Tost has become
a very popular place to catch live music in Seattle
since it opened in 2002. The space is intimate, hip
and sassy - all qualities that have worked well for
the Slam in the past and give us big hopes for the
future. Please join us as The Seattle Slam takes the
Fremont neighborhood by storm!

And all you Slam Regulars can rest easy
knowing that our location is the only thing
changing - so you can continue to
expect our always enigmatic Open Mic, Incredibly
Talented Featured Poets and The Roller Coaster of
Words that is THE SLAM.

Featured Poet Tia Nache Fields

Tia Nache Fields took the Seattle
Poetry Slam by storm this past summer. After
inquiring about "how to get on the slam team" via
email, Tia showed up for her first slam in mid
April, 2006. She won. She did well at the next
semi-final too, qualifying her for Seattle's Grand
Slam. Tia's wondrous stage presence and distinct
hip-hop lyrics won the crowd over at the Grand Slam
and she did what so many attempt at and fail -
qualified for the Seattle National Poetry Slam Team.
During a grueling summer of rehearsals, Tia's stage
presence has not diminished in the least, but if you
think that hip-hop is all this woman can put forth
on the stage you are sorely mistaken. Tia's body of
work grew immensely this summer and she became the
Seattle Slam team's secret weapon.
Tia has much to say, whether she's addressing the
sterotypes of black women or growing up in the
church, she's just getting started. Do NOT miss this
woman's peformance - she will change you.

"Open" Slam

A Poetry Slam is a competitive performance poetry
reading, open to all comers. Frequently called the
"Democratization" of Poetry, Slams focus not just on
the writing but on the performance of the poet as
well. The competitions are judged by randomly picked
audience members.

slammers and touring artists that have blessed us
with their voices.

First view the
video footage of the 2006

support!

Seattle Poetry Slam Seeks Volunteers

The Seattle Poetry Slam has a long history of being
run primarily by the SlamMaster - but the longest
running weekly show in Seattle has had lots of help
from the community along the way. Denise and Daemond
are currently looking for volunteers to help with
promotions, publicity, and a bunch of other tasks
that keep the slam running.

Are you
interested in helping to make the show even better?
