MA - Boston Poetry Slam Welcomes 2006 World Slam Champ Mike McGee
Boston Poetry Slam Cambridge, Mass., Central Square's world-famous Cantab Lounge presents performances from local and national poets, as well as a chance to present your own work in the open mic or poetry slam. Upcoming features include:

Wednesday, January 3
Start the New Year off right with an all-star double feature! Mike McGee, 2006 Individual World Poetry Slam Champion, will stop by with Robbie Q, the not-so-Normal, Illinois SlamMaster. You can expect off-beat and outright hilarity from both of these seasoned performers, but dont let the comedy fool you; both guys have a flair for language that places their work firmly in the field of performance poetry.

Wednesday, January 10
Len Germinara has served as host of such venues as The Daily Grind, The
Brockton Library, Poetribe, and most recently as host and founding
member of The Nantucket Poetry Slam. He is the author of three
chapbooks, and has served, along with his wife Sarah Oktay, as the
editor of three anthologies of poetry. Len was the recipient of the 2003
Cambridge Poetry Award for best narrative poem.

Wednesday, January 17
Poet, songwriter, author, workshop facilitator, and educator Regie
Gibson has performed, taught, and lectured at schools, universities,
theaters and various other venues on two continents and in seven
countries. In addition to working with Gwendolyn Brooks, Amiri Baraka,
Kurt Vonnegut, and Marc Strand, his poetry appeared in the film love
jones and has been widely published in anthologies, magazines, and
journals. Regie was the 1998 Individual National Poetry Slam Champion.

Wednesday, January 24
Brian Ellis first entered the Cantab in winter of 2005, a virtual
unknown in the poetry scene. He won his first slam the following March
and then qualified for the 2006 team, traveling to Texas for the
National Poetry Slam with his fast-paced storytelling work. Brian became
the Cantabs undisputed Rookie of the Year for 2006 when we won the
ten-person World Qualifier finals slam at the Middle East on December 2,
earning the honor to represent the Cantab at the Individual World Poetry
Slam in Vancouver this February. Catch him here before he wows the world
in Vancouver!

Doors for the show open at 7:30. The open mic begins at 8:00, the
feature performs at approximately 9:30, and an open poetry slam follows.
The show is 18+ (ID required) and the cover charge is $3.
