Thrilling day trips Mayan archaeological sites, ecological sites and a working hacienda (come swim in an ancient cenote where over 6,000 Mayan sacrificial objects have been found and another cenote near Chichen Itza which was the cooling off place for Mayan kings and their courtesans, it's amazing!).
Take Spanish lessons while in Mexico, can't get better than that...!
And, generally a great time for all is guaranteed!
Check out the testimonials on our website. Many awesome poets from last year are coming back for more this January!
Get up close and poetic with some amazing poets in an intimate workshop environment with no more than 8 persons:
This year we will have Anne Waldman (Anne, along with Allen Ginsberg and others) founded the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa Institute where she remains a Distinguished Professor of Poetics and the Director of Naropa's famous Summer Writing Program. Anne has published more than 40 books of poetry. Anne's poems can be found in countless anthologies, in films and video and numerous audio recordings. She has collaborated with an astronomical number of artists such as, Elizabeth Murray and George Schneeman, musician Don Cherry and dancer Douglas Dunn. As a poet, performer, cultural/political activist, professor, collaborator and scholar - Anne's unique voice and mind promises to add some excitement to our workshops.
Mark Doty will also be joining us. Mark won the 2008 National Book Award for Poetry for his book of poems, Fire to Fire: New and Selected Poems, HarperCollins (2008). Mark has published nine books of poetry as well as four books of non-fiction prose, which include his endearing and widely acclaimed, Dog Years, HarperCollins (2007). His work has been honored by the National Book Critics Circle Award, the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, a Whiting Writers Award, two Lambda Literary Awards and the PEN/Martha Albrand Award for First Nonfiction. He is the only American poet to have received the T.S. Eliot Prize in the U.K. Don't miss this chance to experience an intimate workshop with Mark.
