Asylum update (09/23)
The Poet's Asylum Fall has arrived and poetry is in the air. Here's what happening at the Asylum this weekend plus a review of Rachel Kann's feature.

*** Shakti Women's Writing Pact

The Shakti Women's Writing Pact meets every Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Java Hut (1073A Main Street, Worcester). Shakti was created with the intention of enhancing women's sense of belonging within the poetry community through the an unmoderated writing circle.

For more information please contact Sou MacMillan at twobunny @ earthlink.net.

*** Coming up on Sunday, September 26th

This week at the Poets' Asylum we welcome Eric Zork Alan to the stage. Zork is probably best known for standing on chairs. It just so happens that when upon a chair he belches out PopTart, Pez, & Push Up poems. He is known for gratuitously dropping names... we won't bore you with that.

Zork has featured at many of the hottest poetry venues in the country. In 2004 he was selected as a Storm poet for the National Poetry Slam in St. Louis. All of this doesn't mean Zork doesn't suck... he might very well. But he is certainly good at two things... binging on blurbs and standing on chairs. Come and decide for yourself... You may even get fed a Pez or a PopTart [whoever said poetry doesn't have its perks].

The Poets' Asylum meets at the Java Hut, 1073A Main Street in Worcester. The sign-up list goes up around 7:00 p.m. and the open mic will start sometime after that. The feature follows the open mic. Come on down, read some poetry, drink some coffee, and listen to some great words.

*** September 19th Revisited

Hot night at the Asylum this week as poetry rock star Rachel Kann took our stage. She's wanted to come perform for us since 2001 and we are so very glad she final had the opportunity to come East. She gave us a killer, high energy feature. Her powerful words showed us new thoughts on girl power, working with high school students and girls in juvenile hall, love and so much more. Rachel also shared "Silver not Gold" by Whitney, one of the girls she worked with. Rachel Kann rocked the mic and gave us all the good stuff. Thanks Rachel!

Rachel is featuring all over the placed over the next couple of weeks. Catch her at Speak Out (Worcester) next Monday (9/27), the Cantab (Cambridge) next Wednesday (9/29) and the Providence Poetry Slam at AS220 (Providence) next Thursday (9/30). More info on these readings can be found on the Poets' Asylum website.
