GotPoetry Live, RI is the first Poetry Reading to come of the GotPoetry.com community!

Poets have been meeting to share their poetry and partake in the camaraderie of our community on Tuesday nights in Providence for over 14 years. The continuation of Tuesday night poetry is important and this tradition should absolutely be preserved.

It is with this in mind that the Gotpoetry Live! reading has been created; to inspire poets to travel to perform in a professional atmosphere, to renew the Joy of reading in Providence, to provide a forum for travelling poets and local talent alike to share their work, and to maintain a community of poets committed to keeping poetry alive in Providence.

Gotpoetry.com, the world's premiere poetry community, has reached out to provide a Live venue for poets, as it has for its online community for the past eight years, in the hopes that it can carry on a new and fresh tradition at Blue State Coffee, in Providence, RI.

Every Tuesday starting at 7:30 PM

GotPoetry Live
@ Blue State Coffee
300 Thayer Street

GotPoetry Live! News from GotPoetry Live! - Louise Robertson is this Tuesday
Posted by John on Friday, February 27, 2009 (17:49:34)

Our feature this last Tuesday was Kevin Spak, an awesome poet and regular at the Cantab Poetry Slam in Cambridge, MA. Kevin brought well-crafted poetry that was, by turns, funny and poignant, such as his "Last of the Harry Potter Books" rumination "There are No Spoilers in this Poem" and "Jury Rigged", the sad, while still proud, poem about his father. Kevin had a clear, ringing voice and solid stage-presence. Why he is not better known is just...wrong. (Kevin and guest stayed at the fabulous "Chez Guillet-McIntyre" where they ate fine microwave burritos and were entertained by Autumn, Toddler to the Stars.

GotPoetry Live! American Life in Poetry: At 14
Posted by John on Monday, January 26, 2009 (16:11:16)

BY TED KOOSER, U.S. POET LAUREATE, 2004-2006

Don Welch lives in Nebraska and is one of those many talented American poets who have never received as much attention as they deserve. His poems are distinguished by the meticulous care he puts into writing them, and by their deep intelligence. Here is Welch's picture of a 14-year-old, captured at that awkward and painfully vulnerable step on the way to adulthood.

GotPoetry Live! RI - Christian Drake!!! At GotPoetry Live! Tuesday 12-30-2008 - 8 PM
Posted by John on Monday, December 29, 2008 (17:30:45)

Last week was a small, but intimate and very fun, gathering. There were 7 or 8 of us, besides Tony & me all sat around a table, sharing poems of a holiday nature. Except for the poems that weren't about Holidays. It was nice and given that both Tony & I dfid limited PR for the event, the small turnout was no problem.

That was then. This Tuesday, December 30th, closing out 2008 is Christian Drake, yo!!!!

GotPoetry Live! RI - GotPoetry Live Election night special open...
Posted by John on Tuesday, November 04, 2008 (03:27:20)

In recognition of the fact that our new venue, Blue State Coffee, has been
an active and enthusiastic center of activity for the Obama campaign, we've
chosen not to have a feature tomorrow night but instead to simply open the
mike to all comers. Comes speak of your hopes, aspirations, concerns,
whatever, as we read poetry and peer anxiously at the election returns.

GotPoetry Live! RI - GotPoetry Live restarts Tuedsay 10-14 at 7:30
Posted by John on Friday, October 10, 2008 (12:54:43)

GotPoetry Live restarts next Tuedsay, October 14, at 7:30 at Blue State Coffee, 300 Thayer Street in Providence! The redoubtable Adam Stone will be our feature.

Our decision to postpone the restart for a week was a good one, we think; the kids at Brown's big poetry show on Tuesday this week were good enough to put our flyers directly into the programs for the event, and I know it generated some excitement.

We'd like to thank Reflections Cafe for welcoming us into their business for the several years we ran the reading there.

GotPoetry Live! Adam Rubenstein at Gotpoetry Live! April 24, 2007
Posted by John on Wednesday, April 25, 2007 (23:04:51)

We had a great night!

A small-ish crowd, but the open mike was hot!! Everybody had great poem(s) to share, with appearences by Eric Urban, Trevor Byrne-Smith, Melissa Guillet, and Tony Brown (who sprang guest-hosting on me, so he got to be an open miker that night), Ducky, Genevieve (who read both a funny and dirty and pun-filled poem about Otis elevators as well as a beautiful, tragic poem about a trans-gender accident victim who was mocked by EMTs, discounted at the hospital as being an obvious overdose (since she was black and trans-gender) and basically left to die. I heard about this when it happened. It was a sad beautiful poem. Genevieve Peri is becoming a favorite poetess of mine. actually, everybody in the open mike was on, hot, and bringing the material to the stage!
