LA- New Orleans Voodoo jazz poetry open mic WELCOME all poets and lovers of poetry/spoken word to Msaniart Gallery's first community event to bring the people of New Orleans together!! On Friday, September 19, 2014, 6pm to 10pm, there will be a Voodoo Jazz Poetry open mic night at Msaniart Gallery located at 823 Royal St. in the French Quarter. Wine and refreshments will be served.

North West Words are staging a fundraising event at and for the Failte Centre in Burtonport tomorrow night (Friday September 12th). Included in a packed evening of poetry, music and storytelling is the launch of a new book – Donegal Sunset by Annie O Donnell. There’s poetry courtesy of North West Words Eamonn Bonner, Maureen Curran, Annmarie Gallagher and Nick Griffiths, as well as readings from primary school poets and younger writers.

Performer and community leader Devin T. Robinson known as Egypt will perform his one-man show Black Men: Naked Truth on Saturday, October 4, 2014 in Clarkston, GA. Egypt uses a unique form of acting called confessional narration to educate on social issues such as HIV, Black history, and relationships. Egypt has graced the stage on national platforms such as MTV, BET, Apollo theatre and FOX with Lee Pitts educating audiences.

Atlanta ladies, take note! Emmy-award winning poet Hank Stewart is hosting "an Intimate Evening with Hank Stewart: Chocolate and Wine." The event takes place at DMARC Cafe' (located at 4450 Hugh Howell Road-Suite 10 in Tucker) from 8pm-12am on Saturday, October 10th and will be an evening of poetry, music, spoken word and the aforesaid chocolate and wine. Tickets are $35.

Current Poetic Events Constance Cooper to Perform Solo Set of Poems at the Bowery Poetry Club, 9/14

On September 14, 2014, Constance Cooper will appear as a soloist in the 9/11 Cultural Festival in a solo set of poems about violence and loss by the Polish Nobel-prizewinning poet Wyslawa Szymborska. Miss Cooper will play her signature setup, a piano and an electric keyboard tuned a quartertone apart, used for its remarkable ability to capture the elusive quasi-pitches of the speaking voice.

This week in Nashville marks the 9th annual Black Theatre Festival, a week-long celebration of black art, theater, performance and performers. The opening weekend kicks off with Rubycat Lawson’s Roadhouse Lounge, Darryl Van Leer and Pete Edwards’ foot-stomping musical tale that celebrates Southern juke joints and pays tribute to artists such as Ray Charles, Little Richard, Sam Cooke, Muddy Waters and Jelly Roll Morton. The event lineup also features play readings, poetry, standup comedy, film screenings and selected workshops.
