The terms alternative rock and alternative music1
were coined in the early 1980s to describe punk rock-inspired music genres which didn't fit into the mainstream genres of the time. At times it was used as
catch-all phrase for rock music from underground artists in the 1980s and rock music in general in the 1990s. More specifically,
it is made up mostly of genres that appeared in the 1980s and became popular or well known by the 1990s, such as indie rock, post-punk, gothic rock, and college rock.
Most alternative bands were unified by their collective debt to punk, which laid the groundwork for underground and alternative
music in the 1970s. Though the genre is considered to be rock, some of its genres were influenced by folk music, reggae and jazz music among other genres.
At Gotpoetry.com we especially appreciate Noise music.
Basically, if it's not major market, popular, rammed down your throat, cookie cutter, pop, buble gum music then it will be featured here.

Disappearance of Latin
Posted by fogglethorpe on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 (15:40:04)
The chances are that no particular virtue attaches to Latin as a language, although its role in our culture is unique and uniquely important. Any dead language will do as the kind of trainer I mean, such as Ancient Greek or, were it copious enough and intelligible, Etruscan..

Manly Songs by a Manly Man
Posted by fogglethorpe on Monday, April 29, 2013 (17:00:00)
Feel her bow rise free of Mother Sea
In a sunburst cloud of spray
That stings the cheek while the rigging will speak
Of sea-miles gone away
She is always best under full press
Hard over as she'll lay
And who will know the Bluenose in the sun?
