Poem

The Old Neighborhood

Take me back to the good old times
heaingr the ice cream man ring his bell,
everyone could buy a cones for dimes..

Oliver's corner store where he sells
licorice sticks, comic books and popcorn.
Dancing in the street at block parties

Never ending summers, we felt freeborn
eatiing packs and packs of (smarties).
Italian people yelled at a child or two,
grapes that smelled of diesel grew between the shops
here for anyone to take them-free for me and you.
Boys who acted bad and brought the cops,
our special place around the block to
roller skate all weekend if we desired.
Hard black top parking lot roller skates just flew!
Our own backyard with a tent when we were tired,
old neighborhood take me back in time
dancing in the dark and ice cream for a dime.. .

(smarties are little wafer candies that you could buy 3 for a penny back then)
