Perhaps A Picnic, Nothing More (a villanelle

Today I walked along the shore
I longed to share the day with you
perhaps a picnic, nothing more

there are feelings one can't ignore
friendships like this are very few
today I walked along the shore

my heart is like an open door
I think of things we like to do
perhaps a picnic, nothing more

or sit upon the cabin floor
maybe a movie and cuddle too
today I walked along the shore

to think of thoughts deep to the core
I looked up at the sky so blue
perhaps a picnic, nothing more

I listened to the water roar
wished that everything were new
today I walked along the shore
perhaps a picnic, nothing more.
