When We Were Young

I could walk with you forever
Into the great blackness of all night
Bound and gagged in senseless attire
Deep green waters against my soul
Walking beside you
Asleep in my mind
With the darkness at my back
And humanity on my shoulders

I will ride into the sandstorms
Of God’s magnum opus
Rain pouring into the dirt
I would ride through the muck and grime
Of this silly little existence
The stars shining overhead
The sky singing to me
My love dying in the mud

Our pitch-black hands gripping each other
Leaving this world for peace
Unions of discretion watching
Waiting for us to make a move
And when we do they leap
They hug us and shower us with warmth
They kill us with their kindness
And we bleed to death at their door
