Cold beneath the Union Jack

Cold beneath the Union Jack

Where away we’ll find a man
where stood so brave a soul;
lay he stilled upon the deck
he’ll fight the good war no more.

Hold to him lad,
now lash him to the mast,
let him see their burning flag
for this battles nearly won.

Yah I say though he’s died
he’s with us through this fight.
Fire a volley and fire another
we can hear our Captain’s shout.

Steady their lads hold her fast,
turn her to the wind about,
lay to their starboard side
then play your cannons loud.

Never more the bell will call,
never more will he say;
hoist her high lads, hoist her high.
hoist our battle flag.

Their ship is lost, our Captain’s dead
no joy this battle won.
Cold beneath the Union Jack,
lay the Crown’s most bravest son.

Lo this day our Captain’s died,
now weight him boys, ball and shot
and sing him mates; sing him home…
to the dust, of Davie Jones locker.
