Poems - after the wind storm
| | after the wind stormby liarbird
The buffer and howling is strong through the night,
loose tin on a roof puts up a good fight,
something goes crashing; something flies past,
the moan at the window is ghostly and fast.
There’s damage at daylight, and still goes the whine,
there is swirl on the wattle, a list on the pine.
The strength of the gum trees are tested, but found
boughs have been splintered and fell to the ground.
Fence lines have gathered the loose and the dead,
there’s a terrible lean on a time-honoured shed,
and crops on the plains are all twisted about,
after the windstorm has finally blown out.
The country looks different and definitely prone
to the strength and the power of natures war zone.
Bittersweet truth lies with heartbreak no doubt
after the windstorm has finally blown out.
The billabongs murky, the river flows brown,
and carries green pruning, snapped and blown down,
chainsaws are cutting what must be thrown out,
after the windstorm has finally blown out.
After the windstorm, has finally blown out,
It’s just one more hurdle to add to the drought,
but farmers resilience will win here no doubt,
now that the windstorm has finally blown out.

G'day Libby...
Thank you very much for reading and commenting...we've had some shocking wind here recently with the season changing to spring, and this is what enticed to write this poem.
Thanks Libby.

Thanks again jenna for taking time to read and comment. I think it is visual too, and there has been a lot of wind damage in Sunraysia this past month.

when mother nature really gets going, the works of man can seem very fragile in comparison, can't they?- watch out for those storms mate - paul.

You should try eating a sanger in one. Theres a reason they call them sandwhiches. I've seen the results of a ute that was not put away when asked.( I plead innocent your honour.), It stripped the paint of the bonnet and roof, Great read as usual. daVE

Lindsay your poetics sing and they entertain and they teach and they serve as an example of excellence in poetry narrative of the highest order. I am proud to be part of a site that also has your incredible talent partnering with the rest of we mortal scribes who still must till the common soil of rhetorical mediocrity. Wondrous magic you create with thy quill. tom

I mirror what you say here Tom, but replace the word 'Lindsay' with Tom. You may not realize it, but I carefully recite your poems to attempt to make story telling to an audience better. I really enjoy your work Tom.

Oh boy, Lindsay, we know that feeling here too. I could sure feel the wind rattling windows and breaking the gum trees in your poem. Clean up is a son of a gun.
Well done, Mary Ann

We are not used to the wind we have been getting this year, and by the look of the forests, neither are the red gums... branches down everywhere. Even this week it's like four seasons in one...next thing I'll be grizzling about it being too hot I suppose.
Thanks matey.

I was having a bit of a squiz in a billabong yesterday. I never know what I am going to see in these still backwaters. In fact, you might have given me another title for a poem... the billabong.
Thank you mate.

The wind caused havoc with the Internet here...also build up of dust on electrical insulators followed by light rain caused a few blackouts. A song Melly...you'll have to sing it.
Thanks Melly.
