- Sometimes the place to look at is last.

I. Places
You don’t want to be in the middle
Two sides to the story
To be first
You have to fight for first
Gaining, straining for the lead
And while last is also in its title
It can include everyone.
And, you know,
I think I understand.
Going back and forth would
Make me tired, too.

II. Course
But you just don’t get it, do you?
I mean, I know you don’t
Mean to show off
But I hear your twice a week
And I’ll admit
I’m jealous
But not because
I want to be the one to
Make it last
With you, but because
You don’t want to be in the middle
And you don’t have to
Your choice
We ran the course
For another choice
Your choice
Chose her
Chose him
Chose them
Poor pity
Fooled into thinking we could be
And I think I understand
You don’t really need me.
I am no sultry red bobbi socks in the winter.
I am no frosted glass of beer next to the sports page.
I am no leather jacket, no wide-swept wings.
I am no knight to take you to Avalon.
I am a sack of feelings
Needing a mirror to bounce
Stuff of with nothing
To grab or to hold
No one will fight to the
