Sinking in

The words that left your lips
Have left my heart to bleed
What looked like a meadow of sun flowers
Now resembles a field of only weeds

The truth is swift sometimes
When landing in your path
So honest in its authentic lessons
Left to lick our wounds in its aftermath

Now we find that the love
Just yesterday so strong
Now holds a new found meaning or texture
Flimsy, fleeting and suddenly all wrong

We are afraid to lose
Who we are, what we know
Must peel off our provisional band aid
Gently discard it, softly let us go

I will dearly miss you
My light dimming within
From the fact you were never really mine
As the ugly truth finally sinks in
