unfair compromise

by liarbird

Going back a few years now when Pyramid was all the go,
Offering a whopping interest if we handed them our ‘dough’,
So the promise of big fortunes put some glitter in our eyes,
But the money was all gone before we got to realize.

And I must admit that I was lucky, so sarcastically I’d joke,
For I wasn’t like old Hilly mate; cause I was always broke,
He’d earned himself a nest egg, so done well financially
When he got the offer of a pay out, from the SEC.

Like many Mum and Dad investors poor old Hilly felt the pinch,
He mentioned there’s a bloke or two, who he’d like to lynch,
For they’d been living off his payout, but when he lost his house
Pyramid could not be blamed; the fault lies squarely with his spouse.

And it’s naught to do with debits for her budgeting is good,
In fact she kept the house afloat a way that Hilly never could,
For he had this little habit that was costly so to speak,
The beer that Hilly’s drinking cost them sixty bucks a week.

With the loss above his earnings and the breadline put on show,
His darling wife reminded him that luxuries must go,
This sent a shiver down old Hilly’s back, for she was quite sincere,
To keep their house and pay their bills, he had to give up beer.

This devastating thought was like a thunderbolt to Hilly,
Surely this was just a silly prank and she was acting silly,
But his wife was sure fair dinkum, and amid some anguished tears,
Hilly sacrificed his first true love, his nightly twenty beers.

For three weeks the twitching got him and the shakes were really bad,
And all the coffee in the world would not contain him going mad,
He had the opposite of D. T’s, that in his gut would nightly wrench,
Then lost his cool completely with what’s on the kitchen bench.

With Hilly sticking to the budget, put in place to keep their house,
He looked inside this paper bag and then went hunting for his spouse,
He shouted out some vile obscenities, and then asked her loud and clear,
Why she spent sixty bucks on make-up, while denying him his beer.

Calming down the situation, Carol stated, “I have thought it through,
The reason why I bought the make up is, to look beautiful for you”,
But Hilly’s residence then altered; his addled mind had gone abuzz,
For he cried out in anguish “What do the think the bloody beer does?”
