advertising executives aren't exactly mental giants
but then, neither are their clients
the new ford ka, for people who can't spell car
the only giant in advertising is jolly, and green
he could be aqua marine, i'm still not buying a bean
with a lovely smile, and an expensive hair do
tell me bullshit, that wouldn't fool the gang on scooby doo
annoying little jingles that go woo woo
lying double speak he spoke
with a dagger under cloak
to offer me cheap insurance opportunities
while interupting john huston movies, about ganster communities
a guy i know doesn't believe we landed on the moon
thinks it was all made up, like a cartoon
i asked " why don't you believe me? "
" because they said it was fake on t.v. "
after watching some rubbish about parapsychology, or ufology, or stupidology
he asked me the difference between astronomy, and astrology
astronomy is a precise, and exact scientific art
where as astrology is a load of crap, that should have been left behind with the horse, and cart
gotta go earn my daily bread
with a mortgage gun to my head
no time for instant potato, for people who can't mash
and silly little gadgets for people with too much cash
one more commercial before i go
happy smiling families eating succulent mc donalds food
funny...when i go there, it's full of miserable people eating warm greasy slop, in a bad mood.

"Lying double speak he spoke..." me favorite line in your poem Paul, even above the Stones quote which I've enjoyed almost all my life. Reminds me of that guy Billy Mays, "But Wait..." ee-gads there's always more. TV gets no respect, of course it earned its place with the non-mysteries and non-ufo's they show; also including non-heroes, non-leaders and way too much bs. The 'ADS' are what pay for our TV Paul...that's why I don't bother watching TV these days...the reason...the 'ADS' are better than the crap classed as entertainment.

This is just excellent this mate- your sense of humour and capacity for contempt meet so precisely that it gives the reader a jolt of reality to cut through all the distractions and crap that we are fed 24/7. (I bet there's even adverts running through our heads in our sleep due to some subliminal messaging shit!)
I've never been one for the telly, but I've noticed this disturbing trend for networks to have the ad volume twice as loud as the programme they interrupt. I remember when channels would advise viewers to put the kettle on during the break. It would never happen now- the attraction to money and status has deprived everything of autonomy. Everything is so closley controlled that there truly is no freedom other than the charade necessary to keep us buying more. I'm ranting again aren't I? Excellent write mate- love and peace, spence

I hardly watch TV but some ads are cool - I like them. Some are bad. Nice write. Nice topic to write a poem. Wonder why I never thought about it.

Liked this, commercials always tend to fib their way into the public. Enjoyed the poetic rant, I can relate to on some days, just can't stand how dumb some commercials or even people are.

oh this is priceless! i only watch tv for the sporting events and sometimes the cooking shows are good, the rest of it is mindless drivel and just pure crap. my poor dad has actually uttered the very words in your poem title, followed shortly after by the words "and then i looked it up on the internet and it said the same thing so it just has to be true!"
i unplugged both devices and ran as fast as i could
