Autumn Lament

by Lionheart

Autumn Lament

Flowers wane in slumber,
on this chilly morn.
Over crimson leaves,
coats of ice adorn.
And in the frosty meadow
stand the hallowed stalks,
waiting for the snowfall
to wrap them up like socks.
Daydreaming by the hearth,
the woodlands turn to brown.
Sleep falls like drifting smoke,
and autumn rests her crown.

Pretty scene, but there's a melancholy undertone knowing what is coming next; for now, grab every last second of autumn's beauty "daydreaming by the hearth". This one is exquisite; a 10 & a favorite. J.

I agree with the comment that your poem has a gentle quality. Just beautiful imagery. I fortunately come from a State that has amazing autumns and you brought it right here a little early. Thank you. Smile
