Poems - Another World

Another World

I tried to make another world
one that we could both go to
so you want to leave well just go soon
I'm tired of taking care of you

so you found another man to own
one that said he'd marry you
you like to let him shoot your gun
but when it's over you are through

now you're beating down my front door
night comes but it's shallow
the circles of our bodies entwine
we're racing towards the finish line

in the dark it's hard to find
the start of me or the end of you
stick around long enough and you'll find God
you can count on me to let you down

that night that you became dangerous
mixing jack and sleeping pills
cutting at your arms and then you scream
take care of you, or take care of me

so now you're off to Illinois
you're still singing your same old tunes
you're standing at Lake Michigan
staring of at the horizon

the water meets the endless sky
it's the bluest blue you've ever seen
it's not an ocean or so they say
but it sure looks just like one to me
