The Ring

by mikangel

When I asked if you would be my bride
You pondered, and I worried
That I was not enough
So I offered you a ring.
Yellow gold,
One of man’s most cherished metals
Topped with a diamond
Many smaller ones around it
All to signify my love that never ends.

But then I thought of the sunrise
With the sun’s beams of yellow gold
Cutting through the darkness
In triumph of the coming day.
The I looked across the meadow
And saw the dewdrops glistening on the grass
Two carat droplets of diamond sparkle
Its beauty unsurpassed.

And then I spied a rainbow
Pastel shades of red and blue and green and yellow
Hanging in the sky, like one of the old master’s works
Hanging in the Louvre.

And I asked myself, then I asked you
Why would you want a ring to wear on your finger
Pretty as it may be
When I can offer you nature and its wonders
That all the world can see

Huh? What’s that you say
OK, ok, I am not a cheap such and such
I’ll buy you your ring.
I love you. (Can’t believe she thought that)

I was really getting into the beauty of the poem with such lines as: "The(n) I looked across the meadow
And saw the dewdrops glistening on the grass
Two carat droplets of diamond sparkle. I esp.liked "the two carat droplets of diamond sparkle"
I wasn't expecting that ending after such lovely lines preceding it! You got me! I'll be keeping an eye out for a serious romantic poem by you...you obviously have a wonderful way of phrasing things. Good job. J.
