Lust by Night, Rich by Day

I would, if I were able,
cease the spinning of the earth.
Shut down the night in all its wonder
to prolong the glorious thunder.
And the rain would freeze amid the air
for all to witness a natural birth
of a beautiful storm poised to break,
a blanket for the stars in nature's wake.
Patiently the sun would wait
with buds to blossom and larks to sing
as I feast upon the awesome glory
that a storm filled night can bring.

But there is beauty to be found
as the sun bestows its light unto the ground
and the once magnificent storm gives way
for the spider to spin her illustrious web.
For me to anticipate what the wind will say,
and hear tunes that sprout from a cardinal's neb.
So, why not also halt the coming day
when my lust for night does ebb?
Then my absent wealth could spring anew
for each bright day holds riches, too.
