Sleep becomes her

by redheadedslxt

Exhausting what's left
I conjure up the strength
to get out of bed
and make it to the bathroom.

The reflection staring back at me
is lifeless...
expressionless...
weathered almost.

The mascara from the night before,
has stained my cheeks...
telling part of the story
that's kept hidden so well.

I take off my tank top and throw it next to the toilet.
Catching a glimpse of my pale skin in the mirror,
I quickly turn to the towel closet and retrieve two towels.
One for my hair and one for my body.

I slip out of my panties
and unfasten my bra.
I let the water run for a minute
and pull the faucet down to turn on the shower.

I step in.
The water engulfs me,
saturating my skin and hair,
washing away the stains from the night before.

If only it could take away the pain that caused it.
Wash it down the drain,
carry it with the dirt and grime...
I would even pour in some Draino just to make sure the job gets done.

I scrub my hair,
my face,
all my body parts,
to get clean...get it off.

I step out and put my hair up turban style,
wrapping the other towel around my body...
tucking it into my breasts,
in the cleavage.

Droplets of water stroll down my legs
creating small puddles on the tiled floor.
I wipe the steam from the mirror...
and stare.

Who is this girl?
Puffy, swollen, red eyes.
They tell a tale.
But really, who's up for the story?

I saunter back to my room...
unwrap both towels
and crawl into bed.
Sleep awaits me yet again.

What day is this?
They have become one and the same...
Something has to change.
I'll just 'sleep' on it...
