Armoured Shell

You don’t know me, you won’t see me
Hiding in my armoured shell
The chrysalis tightens and restricts me
A metamorphosis from hell

I scrub away the cracking skin cells
A fresher layer resides beneath
My true self stirs under the surface
And bursts free of the rotting sheath

I don’t need to hide from sunlight
I don’t need to hide from rain
I’ve outgrown my suit of armour
My inner demons have been slain.
