Gift-mas

The winter solstice convoluted
Pretends to be a Christian feast
Raped of meaning, drowned in tinsel
As the star shines in the East

All are merry, out of pocket
Exchanging presents void of thought
No gesture just an obligation
'Tis the season to be bought

Hark the herald angels sing
A saviour's born and no one cares
The sacrilegious time of getting
When Santa Claus receives your prayers

Whatever happened to religion?
The cola man took Jesus' place
What started as a great tradition
Has disappeared without a trace.
