Oak Tree

The solitary oak tree reaches upwards
Stretching fingers to the sky
Standing alone on the green hillside
Watching life passing him by

His trunk is hard, seemingly lifeless
His branches stripped of all their leaves
Standing dormant like a sentry
Life moves slowly as he grieves

The spring time comes; the world is blooming
The oak tree wakes up from his sleep
His branches are adorned with foliage
The contented oak tree cannot weep.
