Penniless

Please don’t ignore me that I’m a hunky
I’m poor and puny, I have no money
Yet I never beg borrow or steel
I earn three shillings a day one for each daughter

Pavement is my home, the sky my ceiling
When I shiver in cold, I have a designer stole
Uniquely weaved with countable holes
And snigger when you riches burn old clothes

I could be a glutton if only I could be
I manage a slice of bread for breakfast
And water for the rest of the day
But when I’m lucky I get gobs of leftovers

I’m growing old and I can work no more
I wish to end my life but I’m hardly brave
I wish to be relieved soon of my travail
For I would atleast own my grave
