Trespassers Prosecuted

by Ozymandias

"Trespassers Prosecuted!" you say?
My friend, if I could ever have my way
The trespasser would have his due reward
And take dominion with the flaming sword
Which once you stole from his ancestral line
Delineating then your "thine" and "mine".
He'd make a raging bonfire of the laws
that mark out what is mine from what is yours,
And with thick-mudded boots he'd rudely trample
Upon your travesty of the world's example,
Infect your livelihood with upstream germs,
Let loose upon your land the ants and worms
To make their honest living by hard toil,
Enlivening your poor, depleted soil
Till in your impotence you'd find
A different vision fashioning your mind,
Intuiting a world where life is free
To drop its guard, allow its eyes to see
The mirror of the self in other things
Divested of this rule of petty kings.

I hold the trespasser close to my heart;
I hold him dear, for he is part
Of that which sows the deepest seeds of pleasure
In lands exotic, far beyond my measure.
I'd prosecute him not: he is the soul
that long ago was ours, when we were whole.
