A Fairytale

by winterchild

Here told, is the story
of a romance good and true
that ended in tragedy
as these affairs often do

This was no wonderland
no strange cakes to eat
no bottle said drink me
still, I was swept off my feet

I met no white rabbit
tho' I was slightly deranged
From when I first met him
life began to feel strange

One minute I was crying
what was so tragic?
The next I was flying
Was this some old magic?

Who was this tall being
with his wondrous ways
Who would have me delirious
for whole nights and days

I began to go crazy
in the heat of this fire
For never before
had I known such desire

Then one day he dared mention
that he would soon go away
just for a while
he’d be back someday

I was shocked, disbelieving
What was he saying to me
The love of my life
was setting me free!

My heart cracked and broken
I became so frustrated
with this damned homosapien
whom I loved and I hated

Still I held my head high
pretended to be strong
Said I’d known it was only
a game all along

But one night he smiled slowly
with his killer grin
I swear I don’t know
what came over me then

I must have been crazed
by all his shenanigans
for suddenly, before me
sat a small brown amphibian

He seemed quite surprised
as he looked up and croaked
I shivered, in spite
of my warm starry cloak

Could this really have been
the man of my dreams
Are none of us truly
at all what we seem

Best be warned, would be lovers
heed the truth in this ode
of the woman who turned
her Prince to a toad
