Last Dance

Come, place your heart close to mine
for the seconds they pass well out of time
in the nest that we built where we intertwine
as the heat of our heartbeats incessantly climb
the stairway to bliss beyond reason or rhyme
in a vigorous fever of verses sublime.

Come, cross your heart as we promise
in the twilight of life this passion will last
through the chill of December laden in frost
place our fingers together and dismiss the past
watch old memories melt like crystals of ice
let the heat of our passion breathe life.

Come, dance this last dance with me
for we both sing as one in life’s harmony
lift me over your rainbow and far out to sea
in your arms we can dance to the same melody
as our lifelines combine in passion and need
feel the warmth of our love set us free.
