Poems - Lyn died

Lyn died

An old lady who was part of a local writers' group I belong to.

Lyn died
the other day,
leaving nothing.

She wrote poetry, you know,
on spare sheets of paper.
She used to read it to us,
beaming with pleasure,
smiling, with a smile
that lit up the room
with bright light.

I suppose
that in the nursing home
they have gathered up the loose sheets of paper
and tossed them in the wastepaper basket,
leaving only emptiness
in the room,
in our hearts.

You're right Harry... this old lady wrote poems to a standard at least as good as most of what is posted here, but it remained on bits of scrap paper in her nursing home room. Sad, really. Thanks for your comment.
