Leave the burning embers

by deepali

This is an great old country
with turbulent history,
there is violence, corruption
with intrigue and political assassination.
In this heat
i saw a journalist,
to write the truth, in his mind
too strong and too determined
to be shaken by anything
but catastrophe.
A peripatetic truth peddler
some called him a silly meddler
dredging in murky waters of politics
he became a prey of dirty tricks.
Little and soon he realized
morals and politics
are two things exclusive
thought
"why rake over
embers of others sins?
why waste my pen
why lose my kins?"

I too saw
his gist wasted
told him
your eye was misted.
Why put your career in jeopardy
your life on the way to damnation
why stick to your moral views
in the sacred name of news?
It's impossible to tell the whole truth
even if published
people don't have the patience
to read it
courage
to accept it...
They want headlines
they get headlines..
cause headlines,
make life look nice, upgraded
simple and uncomplicated.
"but you can't govern a nation like that,
we need truth and justice!"
The truth?
a sacred dedication
but a thankless service.
Justice?
a goddess, whose scales
never swing true.
Pride, ambition, vanity...
all of them drive a man
but never quite explain!
Why not be reasonable
and move from the rubble.
If not bury the truth
let the dead bury dead!!

I love the universality of this poem...no agenda...no politics...even the country is vague. You are speaking to the single issue of an individual 's choice to censor. Too often people mistake ranting a particular party line for poetry. Very well written.

Very well said, poet. Truth is not what the media presents or what we want it to be, rather it's something we occasionally glance at on our way back and forth from the routine we've set for ourselves in life. If we don't want to see it, we just turn the radio up a little louder and return to our "reality" shows...

Aloha deepali... really good prose, of the verge of classic consciousness, of profound awareness and want for wisdom... do not allow these depths of reality to put one wrinkle upon your forehead young poetess... allow the aged warriors such as myself to continue to lead on point... the truth is available for everyone to experience... all are just to selfish to admit this is so... your works are being read and understood by many of your peers... again I wish you great success and happy times here at gp... all of the best from this life to you and all of your relations... Michael.

There are many people out there who are encased in their political manifesto. Everybody is everybody enraged upon tag lines, taxes, and truth that coexists with the relentless deity of pride and vanity, all of which drive mankind to the brim while they use their money as letter stamps. The difference is that they use them to design and address to themselves. Dollar bills are green and so is the green eyed monster. The truth is a projection from each person, but if one universal truth exists, there is at least a plan to let the alive bury the dead instead of the dead. We just need to follow in. Everything is not war, terrorism, disease, and apocalypse.
