It just so happens

It just so happens…
I was sitting on the porch swing
daydreaming apple pie
when there on a maple limb
a strangeness caught my eye.
It wasn’t quite red or blue
nor was it in-between
sort of like a something
that I had never seen.
What could it not have been?
this thing in the tree,
but it had a hungry look
and looking straight at me.
Now I’m not one to be so brave
or ask questions why,
so I jumped from the swing
and gave up my apple pie.
