Poems - Bluebonnets of Texas
| | Bluebonnets of Texasby Arsaces
Winter clouds have darkened the sky,
And in my heart there is a dreadful sigh.
For a chill has fallen upon this earth
And my heart has lost its tender worth.
Now I wait for the warmth of another spring,
Where rolling fields of bluebonnets will reign.
With their many budding flowers of blue
That will bring a rendezvous of just us two.
There we will walk alone in the Hill Country of Texas
Through those ocean waves of blue, wandering aimless;
Hand-in-hand, body-by-body, and with our eyes aglow,
Floating like a waltzing cloud over love’s meadow.
In the trees we’ll hear the songs of the mockingbirds,
While watching red-breasted hawks soar heavenwards.
We shall pause, look into each other’s eyes, then kiss,
In a field of splendor where love is our beautiful bliss.
Now hurry on spring! Bring me those bluebonnets
Along with the golden-hued Indian paint brushes,
So I can take my love’s hand in this fertile Texas,
And frolic again within such flowering sweetness.
Yes, my dear, we shall meet again in the spring!
Within a vast pasture of bluebonnets blooming,
And chase away the darkness of our winters,
During a warm breeze within God’s blue acres.

Thank you. Sometimes my poems will go for awhile before I get any comments. Maybe because it is a Texas poem? So I really do thank you for your comment. Arsaces

Ummm, where was I in September... I suppose daydreaming somewhere along the coast, when I should have been reminiscing with you in the passion of this truly beautiful bluebonnet love poem.
Would you believe we have bluebonnets here as well - perhaps their seed hitch-hiked all the way from the hill country of Texas in the beds of F-150 pick-up trucks... or perhaps more likely brought here by migrant birds.
Thanks for this, my friend - you made my evening absolutely serene. Very best wishes, Mary Ann

My F-150 has been over a lot of the USA so I sure hope they helped spread the beautiful bluebonnets and Indian paint brushes. They are of the lupine family and can be found all over - even Australia! Thank you Mary Ann and have a wonderful Christmas. Arsaces
