A Somewhat Sentimental Sonnet

by Marty

May I speak of love my Dear,
or would my words cause You to fear -
the prospect of a broken heart
that follows when two lovers part.

Oh, my Love, have peace I pray
for I will never walk away
and leave You in this 'vale of tears'
alone to face the coming years.

Rather I with You shall stay,
to face with You each dawning day
and thank God for the gift You are
my Queen, my Bride, my Shining Star

And when my breath (at last) is gone
my love for You shall carry on
until in death You too shall rise
to meet our Savior in the skies.

But until then I'll stay with you
together we shall carry through,
and make our way across this land,
still heart to heart and hand in hand.

For what this is it is very good, you have shown that you can successfully master a sonnet, but may I suggest doing some free verse that has REAL layers of emotion, not something cliche or conjured.....The problem with this kind of poetry is that it has all been done by masters such as Keats and Shelley and Wordsworth, so why not give my idea a chance? Read my poem "Your favorite Color", if you want to know exactly what Im talking about.

Dear Marty, not sure what your definition of a sonnet is...differes from mine, howeer that isn't important. Yes, what you said is sentimental, however many of us write those kinds of poems from time to time. It's all good practice. Warm Wishes, Tasha

Pujakins, I realize that this little poem does not fit the definition of a "sonnet" - actually I only used the term as a play on words for the title, nothing more.

    Thanks for the comment.

Ok, I understand. Perhaps song rather than sonnet would be a good substitute. Anyhow, You are most welcome, Warm Wishes, Tasha

Yes, there are many "s" words that might apply, story, song, sonnet, schlock. Very Happy

Good poetry, but, Iridium is right: it does have a lot of cliches. However, it is still beautiful.
