I am the candle that burns on into a lonely night
a beacon that steers you from an emotional rocky atoll
the quiet hand that stops you from falling onto hurts blade
and the balm that heals the burn of a broken love
I am the light that chases away the dark cloud of despair
a friend when none wish to visit on a cold windy night
the freedom that steals you from a restricted love
and the warmth that removes a chilled heart.
I am sunshine in a dreary existence
a reason to remain alive and true to love
the feeling of touching through the soul
and the sense of real connections
I am a friend

oddly enough about 20 minutes ago I did read it aloud to my wife. it sounds quite good so shall put it in my to read book. thanks for the comment.dAVE

Your words describe a real & true friend. I esp. liked this line:
"a friend when none wish to visit on a cold windy night"

So lovely and emotionally true, Dave... I love "I am sunshine in a dreary existence, a reason to remain alive..." How much it matters to simply be a friend and experience the joy of real friendship.
